Carriageworks’ First Nations Garden brings local plant species home, to create a space for community action and education where people can gather to share knowledge through storytelling.
Elders from Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care and children from Redfern Jarjum College and other local schools gather each month at Carriageworks for sessions designed by the inaugural First Nations Fellowship recipient Henrietta Baird (Kuku Yalandji/Yidinji).
This garden is a first step towards an ambitious cultural maintenance program focusing on the revival and regeneration of traditional language, song and dance of First Nations clan groups from across the Sydney basin.
