ANITO
ANITO is a bold, queer reimagining of a Filipino ghost story. Co-created by Justin Talplacido Shoulder (The Glitter Militia, Club Ate) and Eugene Choi, it blends puppetry, dance, and experimental electronic music to explore the ancient Filipino belief in Anitos—spirits inhabiting all entities, both animate and inanimate.
Rooted in Sydney’s queer and diasporic scenes, ANITO creates a “Queer Filipino Future Folkloric” space, where nature spirits guide us through new futures. Performers Shoulder and Choi transform into hybrid beings, confronting colonial histories and queer ancestral narratives in a world of terror and beauty.
“An astounding piece of illusionistic visual theatre”
