Carriageworks is located on Gadigal Land in Redfern, Sydney. Click here to find out what land you are on.
We acknowledge unceded First Nations sovereignty and ownership of the land on which we come together to converse, create and work. In all our actions we demonstrate respect for Elders and custodians and for the long histories of community and knowledge that shape this place.
Our engagement with Aboriginal communities and businesses in our local area, demonstrates our respect and honour for the place in which we operate. This includes employment of three tiers of First Nations governance: a Knowledge Circle comprising local First Nations knowledge-holders from the Sydney basin, a First Nations business group, engaging local Aboriginal organisations in Carriageworks’ planning and programs and our First Nations Strategic Committee advising the Carriageworks Board and team on the development of First Nations Arts and Employment Strategies.
The Carriageworks First Nations program encompasses music, markets, workshops and performances. Through sustained regular programming for artists, community and youth, we offer moments for reflection and gathering that aligns with key First Nations cultural pillars: Caring for Country, Respect for Elders, Kinship and Youth.
