Today, Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah and Director, Programs Daniel Mudie Cunningham announced the 2019 Carriageworks Clothing Store artists. The studios were established in 2017 through a partnership with UrbanGrowth NSW Development Corporation.
Through the partnership each resident artist will receive a subsidised studio at North Eveleigh and will contribute to a community focused workshop program that will be delivered at Carriageworks.
The 2019 Carriageworks Resident Artists are: Eugene Choi, Sarah Contos, Dean Cross, Cherine Fahd, Tina Havelock Stevens, Kate Mitchell, JD Reforma and Wrong Solo (Agatha Gothe-Snape & Brian Fuata), will be new artists in residence, with Tony Albert continuing his residency for the Solid Ground studio, and Nell in the Public Art studio. This is the second time UrbanGrowth NSW welcomes new artists in residence to The Clothing Store building since 2017.
UrbanGrowth NSW is working with Carriageworks to support the artist studio program. Built in 1913, the Clothing Store is part of the historic Eveleigh Railway Workshops that includes Carriageworks and South Eveleigh. UrbanGrowth NSW is a New South Wales Government agency that works with government, the private sector and community partners to drive economic development including the renewal of urban places across metropolitan Sydney.
The inaugural artists in residence in 2017-18 were Tony Albert, Tully Arnot, Mikala Dwyer, Samuel Hodge, Nell, Claudia Nicholson, Other Architects, and Phaptawan Suwannakudt.
