As part of Mel O’Callaghan’s major new exhibition All is Life, the work First sound, last sound (2022), features two large-scale tuning forks which were made by Matthew Mewburn and the blacksmiths at Eveleigh Works in consultation with Damien Ricketson at the Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney and Carriageworks’ Exhibition Manager Glenn Thompson.
When these tuning forks are struck by performers, vibrations are transmitted from object to the body and through the performer to the audience.
