Take part in the public program accompanying Salote Tawale’s ambitious new exhibition I remember you. Through discussion, food, and hands-on making, the program explores memory, identity and the shared practices that bring us together.

MYSELF, MY MEMORY: FAMILIES WORKSHOP 

Kids and families are invited to participate in a guided gallery experience and art-making workshop. Taking inspiration from artist Salote Tawale’s focus on identity and memory, children will draw from their own memories to create a collaborative artwork from everyday materials.

This program is led by FLENK Collective, a group of artists, educators, and digital creators who connect audiences with contemporary art and artists.

LIVE COOKING DEMO WITH SALOTE TAWALE, PASEPA MORELL AND CLAIRE VAN VUUREN (BLOODWOOD) 

To coincide with Salote Tawale’s ambitious new exhibition I remember you, catch a live cooking demonstration with the artist, Pasepa Morell and Bloodwood Head Chef and Co-Owner Claire Van Vuuren. The three friends bring a fresh approach to classic Fijian recipes, sharing stories and anecdotes along the way.

IN CONVERSATION: SALOTE TAWALE AND VERÓNICA TELLO 

Hear from artist Salote Tawale in conversation with art historian Verónica Tello, as they discuss how translation, memory and history have forged their sense of self and community. Friends for almost twenty years, and collaborators on several projects, Tawale and Tello draw on shared practices and common experiences.

TALANOA AND SHARED MEAL WITH SALOTE TAWALE AND JIOJI RAVULO 

Share in a talanoa with artist Salote Tawale and academic and social worker Jioji Ravulo, reflecting on their experiences of identity within queer communities and as part of the Pacific diaspora. Situated around the vale (family house) at the centre of I remember you, the conversation will focus on collectivism as central to Indigenous knowledge systems. Following the talanoa, join us for a communal Fijian meal.
