NAISDA is the leading First Nations arts training organisation creating and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and wisdom through excellence and innovation in dance and performing arts education.
This year’s performance of First Nations creativity, culture, energy, attitude and execution continues NAISDA’s nearly 50-year legacy at the forefront of First Nations performing arts training.
DUJON NIUE
Dujon graduated NAISDA in 1986 and went on to spend eight years with the Aboriginal Islander Dance Theatre (AIDT). Following this, he returned to the Torres Strait and founded his own dance company, Arpaka. Dujon’s heritage and extensive career in the performing arts led him to a collaboration with Musica Viva and the creation of the first Torres Strait Islander cultural program Wyniss which has toured extensively throughout Australia since 2019. As NAISDA Cultural Tutor, Dujon has shared Torres Strait Islander culture, song and dance with students for over eleven years. In collaboration with Director Vicki Van Hout, Dujon’s cultural knowledge and repertoire are included within this year’s NAISDA production “the trees have voices, the feet have ears” at Carriageworks 21 – 23 November.
