CARRIAGEWORKS ANNOUNCES WINTER SEASONAL MARKET PROGRAM 29 May 2024

Sydney, Australia: Carriageworks has announced the return of the much-loved Winter Seasonal Market, on Saturday 15 June, 8am-1pm. Celebrating the arrival of cooler weather, the market will feature the best new seasonal produce alongside an exciting program of live cooking demonstrations and hands-on workshops for kids.

New South Wales’ leading growers will help visitors stock up on the freshest seasonal produce to keep them in good spirits through the winter chills, including sweet earthy Jerusalem artichokes, sweet and zesty citruses like mandarins, grapefruits and lemons, and winter brassicas like Brussels sprouts, cabbages and silverbeet, as well as a huge range of the best quality meats, cheeses, dips, baked goods, specialty drinks and seasonal blooms from over 50 stallholders.

The free public program features a live cooking demonstration hosted by SBS Food’s Farah Celjo with Plate It Forward’s CEO and Founder, Shaun Christie-David alongside his mother, Shiranie, who will share the Colombo Social recipe for ‘Amma’s (Mum’s) Dhal’. Plate it Forward is a charity that provides meals to those in need, as well as hospitality training to refugees, and owns and operates the restaurants Colombo Social, Kabul Social and Kyiv Social. Carriageworks has partnered with Plate It Forward to see Colombo Social take up residence at the precinct during the season of Belvoir St Theatre’s Counting and Cracking from 28 June – 20 July, serving up a 4-course, pre-theatre dining experience featuring soulful Sri Lankan food and vibrant cocktails.

Making sure the kids have a roaring good time, puppetry-based theatre company Erth will be roaming the market with their unmistakably ‘alive’ dinosaur friends throughout the day and hosting workshops. Workshop participants will get to construct a terrifying T-Rex or an awesome Australovenator hand puppet, as seen in the interactive performance Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo which is heading to Carriageworks during the winter school holidays. After the workshop, families can explore the markets with their hand puppet to find out if it’s an herbivore or a carnivore.

Creative Director of Carriageworks Farmers Markets, Mike McEnearney, said: “We are delighted to see the return our Carriageworks Winter Seasonal Market, as our fantastic local growers showcase their finest winter products alongside ready-to-eat treats and meals that are sure to warm up Sydneysiders. We’re thrilled to also offer visitors a taste of what’s in store at Carriageworks, as we get a sneak peek at the experiences coming up during our Carriageworks Stages season. Join us for a vibrant atmosphere that highlights the very best of winter in Sydney.”

The Colombo Social pop-up during Counting and Cracking and Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo form part of Carriageworks’ newly introduced Carriageworks Stages program which will present an expanded array of stage works in 2024.

Admission to the Carriageworks Winter Seasonal Market is free, running 8am – 1pm on Saturday 15 June.
