The second iteration of the one-day event returns this May featuring artists from across Sydney selling their work directly to the public
CUT N POLISH and Carriageworks today announced the names of over 140 artists and collectives from the Greater Sydney region who will participate in the second annual CUT N POLISH: Artist Car Boot Sale on Sunday 7 May 2023. Following the huge success of the inaugural event in 2022, CUT N POLISH returns to Carriageworks’ Blacksmith’s Workshop for a high-energy, one-day car boot sale featuring artists selling their works direct to the public in a dynamic, market-style setting.
From rising stars to award-winning practitioners, CUT N POLISH provides visitors and collectors the opportunity to meet artists, support their practices and purchase works in a ‘cash and carry’ model with all proceeds going directly to artists. Visitors can expect artworks across varying mediums – from ceramics and painting to clothing and jewellery – available at all price points.
Free to participate, the line-up of artists and collectives were selected by project founders, and leading contemporary artists, Consuelo Cavaniglia, Jonny Niesche and Brendan Van Hek, alongside Carriageworks Assistant Curator, Stephanie Berlangieri, and First Nations Program Assistant, Katherine Stone.
The CUT N POLISH project founders said: “We are thrilled to bring back CUT N POLISH to Carriageworks following the incredible success of last year’s Artist Car Boot Sale which saw amazing sales for our community. Established by artists for artists, the event is a wonderful opportunity to meet and hear directly from local practitioners and learn more about the making of their work in an inclusive and casual environment.”
Acting Carriageworks CEO Jonty Claypole said: “CUT N POLISH is a fantastic event and we’re proud to welcome it back to Carriageworks. It provides a unique platform to directly support the practices of our local artist community, being free to participate and 100% of the profits going back to the artists. CUT N POLISH is an opportunity to take art out of the usual gallery context and create a space where artists and the general public can come together.”
Audiences can look forward to some of the following highlights:
- Zanny Begg is a video installation artist who explores questions of feminism, migration, and ecological and intergenerational responsibility. Begg will be selling a new range of bomber jackets featuring her own designs, produced using local and sustainable suppliers.
