In a series of original artworks commissioned by Carriageworks, Samuel Hodge examines Oscar and Lucinda, the new work from Sydney Chamber Opera.
‘It was such a pleasure to be commissioned to make artworks for Oscar & Lucinda. As a teenager in the countryside I became obsessed with the scene in the movie where the glass church floated up the Bellinger River. I grew up in an isolated community not far from there – and I used to imagine, despite the tragedy of this tale, the pure joy that would have spiked in my community, even if it happened in the 90s. And I guess that’s the power of this vision that the author has created. It keeps on giving.’
