Sydney, Australia: Carriageworks has announced the return of its cherished Spring Seasonal Market on Saturday 14 September, 8am-1pm. Celebrating the warming weather, the market will be bustling with fresh spring produce, brunch options and a live program that includes a cooking demonstration, panel discussion and two workshops.
Top growers and producers from across New South Wales will be in attendance with the freshest seasonal produce the state has to offer. Look out for crowd pleasers like early-season asparagus, decadent blood oranges, buttery globe artichokes as well as award-winning meats, cheeses, condiments, baked goods, specialty drinks and, of course, flowers galore.
The market’s public program will feature a live cooking demonstration from trailblazing chef Jean-Paul El Tom of Marrickville darling Baba’s Place. Jean-Paul will be cooking up a dish showcasing his spring produce picks from across the market.
Also on offer, a panel discussion on regenerative agriculture hosted by Helen and Mike McCosker. Mike is a fourth generation farmer and Helen is the CEO of Carbon8, a not-for-profit organisation that supports farmers’ transition into regenerative agriculture. They’ll be joined by regenerative farmers from the market to highlight the importance of the biggest agricultural revolution since that other agricultural revolution.
Attendees looking to get even more involved are in luck. The Guided Beehive Experience will allow attendees to get suited-up up close and personal with the 50,000 tenants living in one of Carriageworks’ thriving beehives. These are the same hardworking bees who make the Carriageworks Honey on sale at the market. The workshop will start with an introduction on the ecological importance of bees before everyone dons beekeeping suits in order to safely handle frames of bees and honey. After that, a honey tasting and Q&A with our expert beekeepers from Rooftop Bees.
For kids, the Little Ticklers Planting Workshop will be a surefire hit. Wormticklers’ Jordan Sly will teach participants how seeds germinate, the magic of growing our own food and the importance of planting bee-friendly flowers in our gardens. The budding green thumbs will then be shown how to plant their very own sunflower or veggie seedling which they can take home and nurture.
Creative Director of Carriageworks Farmers Markets, Mike McEnearney, said: “The Spring Seasonal Market is one of the best times of the year as we fling our beanies to the back of the wardrobe and celebrate with our community. Our unstoppable stallholders are going to be on hand with new spring produce, vibrant flowers, top-notch snacks and lots of other goodies. Meanwhile, our fantastic live program of events and workshops has something for everyone – regulars, first-timers, kids, former kids – we’re all in for a treat.”
Admission to the Carriageworks Spring Seasonal Market is free, running 8am-1pm on Saturday 14 September.
