Lemi Ponifasio’s new work is a collaboration with renowned Arab poet, Adonis, whose epic poem grapples with the history, religion, politics and fate of the Holy City of Peace. In Jerusalem, Lemi Ponifasio turns to the image of one of the most contentious cities in human history to create a concerto composed of disparate fragments, like Jerusalem herself, forever seeking wholeness and holiness.

‘As a child I imagined Jerusalem as a place in Heaven. Then I heard about the peace process and unending conflict over a coveted living ruin on Earth. Monument, allegory, myth, the return of Paradise… the oneness of God, the oneness of truth, the oneness of humanity? Within ourselves, our own Jerusalem.’ – Lemi Ponifasio
