The 2023 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) is developed and curated by Artspace, Sydney, in partnership with the NSW Government through Create NSW, and presented with Carriageworks.

Nadia Odlum

Maddison Gibbs  Maddison will be hosting a placard making workshop over the night responding to the so-called Australian political system. Themes include the Voice, climate catastrophe, mining and truth telling.
Morgan Hogg  Through traditional Cook Island storytelling, a performative gesture will extend the warmth and comfort of being held by community, family, ancestors and spirits. With the ritual act of the o'ora (a laying of dowries), the performance will engage with cross-generational archives and stories: ‘Mou Piri’ (c.1973), written by Jo Jonassen, was the first Cook Island song introduced to me by my mother. A song that brought us together to sing and dance into the night, holding each other and our culture closely.’
Nadia Odlum  Nadia will lead a playful workshop thinking through the ways we move and gather in the city. Join in a high-energy brainstorm, then launch your collective thoughts into the air.
EJ Son - archive  EJ Son and friend Bonnie Huang become balloon twisting artists for the evening. At the audience’s request, they will create balloon bears in response to 싱머신: Dancing Machine a.k.a Dancing Teddy (2022). Watch and await potential explosion!
Natalie Quan Yau Tso - Nights  Natalie will spit and kiss her saliva sculptures in a durational performance. In this act, Natalie connects with her grandmother: ‘Spitting outside kissing is an intergenerational feeding. Your spit is warm as bird's nest, my spit solidifies in the gap between mothers. I make the swallow's nests that you used to feed us with your, and now, my saliva, I hope you like it.’
Min Wong 
Arrive back into your body in a stretch workshop with physiotherapist Liz Noad among Min’s sculptural installation. Learn a variety of techniques to mobilise, open and shift stagnant patterns of tension. Explore your internal space, let go, feel grounded and connect.
