Solid Ground is a major partnership between Carriageworks and Blacktown Arts Centre. It provides arts, education and training and employment outcomes for young Indigenous Australians from the Redfern and Blacktown areas. Solid Ground creates opportunities for young Indigenous Australians to work across contemporary theatre, dance, visual arts and music, gaining professional industry experience combined with skills based training.
Currently, only 19% of young Indigenous Australians in Blacktown complete year 12, with 1.3% going on to tertiary education. Your support offers genuine opportunities that help improve these statistics, removing barriers to education and employment.
Building on our commitment to connect young Indigenous Australians with the arts, the Solid Ground Artist in Residence program has expanded to three schools, with Nicole Monks at Evans High School, Adam Hill – Blak Douglas – at Chifley College Bidwill, and the Cope St Collective at Alexandria Park Community School.
As the initiative grows, we’ve invested in the team that manages and delivers the program, with Charlotte, Emily and Bee connecting with communities, providing support for the program participants and identifying and seizing opportunities to develop the program and ensure its ongoing relevance to young Indigenous Australians.
Your investment in Solid Ground will enable access to education and training programs for over 150 young Indigenous Australians with a further 3,000 people engaging with arts and cultural programs each year.
