K-POP GLOBAL PHENOMENON BOYFRIEND AND JJCC PERFORM AT CARRIAGEWORKS IN 2016

Sydney, Australia: Carriageworks has partnered with the City of Sydney and SBS PopAsia to present K-Pop Party 2016 featuring Boyfriend and JJCC. This ultimate boyband party will open the 2016 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival at Carriageworks. Hosted by SBS PopAsia Jamaica dela Cruz and Andy Trieu who will interview Boyfriend and JJCC live on stage.

Boyfriend, one of the top Korean K-Pop boy bands and JJCC will perform for two nights only on February 5 & 6 for the first time in Australia.

Boyfriend is a six-member South Korean boy group consisting of Kim DongHyun, Shim HyunSeong, Lee JeongMin, Cho YoungMin, Cho KwangMin and Noh MinWoo. They debuted on Mnet’s M! Countdown in 2011 with their 1st single album Boyfriend and have been a global phenomenon since.

From their successful debut to now, Boyfriend has had numerous hit-singles in Japan as well as in Korea, allowing their fan base to grow worldwide. Boyfriend’s face book page has more than 3 million followers around the world. Boyfriend has appeared in television variety shows, movies, dramas, sitcoms and musicals since 2011.

In 2011 Boyfriend won Best New Artist at the SBS MTV Best of the Best Awards; Best New Artist 26th Golden Disk Awards; Best Newcomer Award for the 21st Seoul Music Awards; in 2013 they won the 27th Japan Gold Disc Awards Best 3 New Artists, Special Jury Prize, Korean Entertainment 10th Anniversary Award in Japan; the MTV EMA for best Korea Act; the Animation Artist of the Year for the Billboard Japan Music Awards; Popularity Singer for the 2015 Asia model Festival Awards and Korean Artist with the Most Potential for the 2015 3rd Yin Yue Tai V-Chart Awards.

JJCC is a South Korean boy group formed under the management of Jackie Chan Group Korea and is the first K-pop idol group to be formed by Jackie Chan. E.co, Eddy, SimBa, San-Cheong, Prince Mak Zica and Yul are the seven members of JJCC. Prince Mak is the only Australian member of the group and he grew up in Western Sydney and also hosts a weekly radio that streams live on SBS.

First gaining popularity in East Asia in the late 1990s, K-Pop entered the Japanese music market towards the turn of the 21st century. In the late 2000s, it grew from a musical genre into a subculture among teenagers and young adults of East and South East Asia. Currently, the spread of K-Pop to other regions of the world is seen in parts of Latin America, Northeast India, North Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and immigrant enclaves of the Western world. K-pop was recognised by Time magazine as “South Korea’s Greatest Export’’.
