THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP

A VERSION 1.0 PRODUCTION PRESENTED BY CARRIAGEWORKS

THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP

October, 2007: Marou Awanis, 49 and Geneva Jalal, 30 are shot dead on a busy Baghdad street by contractors from Australian company Unity Resources Group when their car allegedly “failed to stop”. Their deaths dragged Australian companies into a furious international debate over the ever-increasing role of private contractors in war zones.

Widely acclaimed theatre makers version 1.0 take this incident as a starting point for a new Australian work that investigates war, commerce and the price of privatisation.

“If you are a fan of theatre and haven’t yet heard of version 1.0, you haven’t been listening properly.” The Daily Telegraph.
