SYNERGY PERCUSSION AND CARRIAGEWORKS PRESENT
XENAKIS VS PATERAS
To kick off its 40th anniversary celebrations, Synergy Percussion presents an epic and immersive music event, to be experienced over two consecutive nights.
On the first night, Synergy Percussion performs Pleiades composed by the world’s greatest composer for percussion, Iannis Xenakis in 1978. First performed by Synergy Percussion in 2011 to critical acclaim, Pleiades is dynamic music of organized chaos which delivers a variety of sound from drums, marimbas, vibraphones and sixxens, micro-tonal metal instruments especially built for this piece.
Presented at Carriageworks with no central stage or organised seating, six musicians will perform from platforms, amongst which audience members are encouraged to freely roam, creating their own visual and acoustic experience of the work.
On the second night, Synergy will use the same staging to present the world premiere ofBeauty Will Be Amnesiac Or Will Not Be At All. This ambitious response to Pleiades is by one of Australia’s most renowned composers Anthony Pateras. Scored for the same instruments including the sixxens, the work adds six channels of electronica sound design, alternating between powerful unison rhythms and extremes of free co-existence.
Each concert will run for approximately 60 minutes.
