CARRIAGEWORKS, MODULAR AND VIVID SYDNEY 2014 PRESENT
Modular and Carriageworks present Modulations – a four day music and food collaboration as part of Vivid Sydney 2014.
Modulations is headlined by electronic pop legends Pet Shop Boys, who will make their only Australian performances of their 2013/14 Electric world tour at Carriageworks. This is a rare opportunity to experience their full production including film, lasers, breath-taking costumes, and choreography – along with a catalogue of hits, in an intimate and immersive environment.
The Presets will be in DJ mode as very special guests of the Pet Shop Boys on 6, 7 and 8 June at Modulations. Fresh from national performances of Timeline, a time-bending musical odyssey through 42,000 years, with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, The Presets’ Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes will be behind the decks at Carriageworks for these three intimate shows. Tickets for Pet Shop Boys and Presets (DJ set) are on sale now.
On Friday 6 June, experimental musicians Liars have been pursuing the art of music and performance for over 15 years. Always pushing the envelope with concept albums, innovative campaigns, visual art and collaboration, the LA 3-piece Liars fit in perfectly with Modulations exploration of how music performance, art, installation and contemporary ideas intersect, overlap and influence. Liars will be joined by Melbourne-Sydney duo HTRK performing the minimal swell of cool room dub and arrestingly hushed vocals from their newly released Psychic 9-5 Club. Tickets for Liars and HTRK on Friday 6 June are on sale now.
For Modulations, iconic Sydney restaurant, Porteño will host a four day rockabilly pop-up bar and grill across the weekend at Carriageworks. On Friday 6 June – Sunday 8 June from 5pm till late, Porteño’s award-winning chefs Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz and Sydney craft beer brewers Young Henrys, will be joined by the sounds of Sydney’s finest human rock’n’roll jukeboxes – Rusty (You Am I) & Boonge (Friday 6 June), Yo Grito DJs (Saturday 7 June), La Mancha Negra DJs (Sunday 8 June) and Rockin’ Mark Rondeau and A Man Called Stu (Monday 9 June). Entry to the pop-up restaurant is free.
The Wild Porteño program will culimate on Monday 9 June with an all-day live music lineup that brings bands from Porteño’s favourite label – the LA based Wild Records – to Sydney for the first time. Playing prime American rock’n’roll and rockabilly live and raw, the day will feature Gizzelle’s startling take on late 50s blues, r&b and early 60s soul, the thunderous commotion of Luis & the Wildfires and the holy howlin’ rhythms of Las Vegas’ The Delta Bombers.
