Jonathan Jones has been commissioned by Performance Space to create a major new exhibition for Liveworks. A member of the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi nations of southeast Australia, Jones employs an array of materials and techniques in his work to explore Indigenous cultural forms and their continuity through history into the present moment. In guguma guriin, Jones’ explores de-colonisation through the reclamation of the artist’s own country. From repurposing found objects that bear the marks of white settlement to reviving Wiradjuri language, Jones re-examines the current place of Indigenous culture within Australian society.
