ART ON THE RUNWAY: IS CONTEMPORARY ART DRIVEN BY FASHION?

PRESENTED BY ART MONTH IN COLLABORATION WITH HARPER’S BAZAAR

ART ON THE RUNWAY: IS CONTEMPORARY ART DRIVEN BY FASHION?

ART MONTH

In this discussion, co-presented with Harper’s Bazaar, creators, collaborators and commentators explore the relationship between art and fashion. Introduced by Kellie Hush, editor of Harper’s Bazaar, speakers include photographer Derek Henderson, author/curator Alison Kubler, journalist/editor/author Mitchell Oakley Smith, stylist Tiana Wallace and artist Técha Noble.

New Zealand born photographer Derek Henderson currently divides his time between Auckland, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia. Aside from his innovative and distinct work in fashion photography, Henderson also exhibits work as part of his fine art practice both nationally and internationally.
Alison Kubler is a freelance curator and writer. She has over 17 years experience working as a curator in museums and galleries in Australia, and writes for leading art journals and magazines. Along with co-author Mitchell Oakley Smith she has recently launched Art/Fashion in the 21st Century, published by Thames and Hudson.

Técha Noble is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Sydney, exploring ideas around gender, identity and the body. These ideas have various transmissions across gallery-based exhibitions, live performance arenas and design based projects. Técha interfaces with popular culture via fashion, album cover design, music video direction and set design. Técha is a founding and ongoing member of the collective The Kingpins, formed in 2000.

Mitchell Oakley Smith is a global-roaming journalist, editor and author. He has written for Architectural Digest, Art Monthly, Belle, CNN, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Monument, The Australian, Wish and Vogue Living, and edits and publishes quarterly men’s journal Manuscript. He is the author of three books on art, fashion and design.
Tiana Wallace is a creative consultant and stylist. She has produced images for a multitude of magazines and advertising campaigns in collaboration with leading photographers and art directors. As a consultant she works with labels and designers providing creative direction for brand, advertising, retail, content and product development.
