Women in the Arts

Women in the Arts is an organisation addressing endemic issues of gender inequality and exclusionary practices in the Australian arts landscape.

WOMEN IN THE ARTS

TIMES:  6-8pm
DATES: Thursdays 16 NOV – 14 DEC 2017
LOCATION: The Clothing Store, Carriageworks
COST: Free

Women in The Arts will present a series of in-conversation events at The Clothing Store in collaboration with Island Salon, a curatorial project initiated by Danielle Zorbas, Angela Garrick and Sophie Kitson for Underbelly Arts Festival 2015. Expanding the scope of Australian experimental arts practice and engagement, Island Salon was first presented as a large-scale cinema installation, uniting female identifying artists across a broad spectrum of media in an immersive, island-inspired cinema experience, celebrating the polyphonic Australian women’s voice.

To celebrate the two-year anniversary of Island Salon and the publication launch, Women in The Arts will critically engage with a selection of artists involved in Island Salon who have continued to work collaboratively, drawing on themes of mateship, interdisciplinary and interstate connection, and how as women we engage with collaborative practice in the Australian arts ecology.
