Wrong Prom 2010

Where good music and daggy dancing collide

in association with Urban Dance Centre

Relive your dance floor glory days amongst friends, learn some groovy moves, and then dance the night away with DJ’s spinning the music your memories are made of under the glint of the disco ball. In a mass dance class for over 18’s, professional dance instructors teach the moves you’ve always wanted to master from classic dance films like Flashdance, Blues Brothers (unleash your Soul Man!), Grease and Chicago (brush off your fishnets!).

Wallflowers welcome, but watch out - the bar is serving cocktails to get your feet tapping!

Get the guys and girls together for a super-fantastic fun night out... Shake your tail feather – whether it’s coordinated or not!

Get to CarriageWorks at 7.30pm to get warmed up, then the dance class runs from approximately 8pm for about an hour. Afterewards you can throw your own shapes on the dance floor until 11pm.  

WRONG PROM 2010

 Wrong Prom #5 - Flashdance - Wednesday 5 May from 7.30pm - SOLD OUT!
CarriageWorks will hold four WRONG PROM events in 2010. On 5 May, the series will kick off with a Flashdance theme. Learn the routines, then dance like your career depends on it. Take your passion and make it happen, you can dance right through your life. Legwarmers and leotard optional, but we bet we will be seeing a lot of lycra!

Wrong Prom #6 - Blues Brothers - Wednesday 23 June from 7.30pm
Rhythm, Blues and Motown... Yes, that’s right, Aretha and Peter Gunn are in the house! The best place to show off your Twist is the Blues Brothers Wrong Prom – show ‘em how you can shake your tail feather!  Wear your retro Raybans, don the classic Belushi suit and get ready to be redeemed! The euphoria of participating in the Jailhouse Rock will lift your spirits and cure those winter blues.

Wrong Prom #7 - Grease - Wednesday 28 July from 7.30pm
Poodle skirt, anyone? Become the mysterious heart throb from Australia, coif your hair higher than it’s ever been greased before.  Join the cheer team, stare forlornly into wading pools, drop out of beauty school, multiply your chills and dance like school is out! Who knows, maybe you’ll find some summer lovin’.  It happens so fast.

Wrong Prom #8 - Chicago - Wednesday 25 August from 7.30pm
Are you made of cellophane or do you have All that Jazz? Prove it... Paint the town red Broadway jazz style tonight!. It’s going to be a real three ring circus, you’re gonna Razzle Dazzle ‘til your garters break. So get on your favourite fishnets to see your name go up in lights! Important - this is the last Wrong Prom ever! Your last chance to hit the dance floor in our mass dance class, so don't miss out! Tickets will sell out.

WHAT TO WEAR

 You’ll be dancing, so wear something that you can move in comfortably. Whatever works for you – legwarmers and Dance Reeboks, or spandex and your lucky high heels, anything goes! If you are really dedicated to your classic pop culture, feel free to dress up in the theme of the night.  

IMPORTANT - TICKET SELL FAST – DON’T MISS OUT

Last year, all the Wrong Prom events sold out before doors opened on the night. We recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment. Tickets will go on sale soon. Keep a close eye on our Facebook page and Twitter stream to be the first  notified when they go on sale.  

GETTING HERE - TIPS AND TRICKS

We are expecting a lot of people to come to CarriageWorks for this event, so the site will be very busy and there are very few parking spaces on site. In order to make your visit to CarriageWorks as smooth and pleasant as possible, please leave your car at home! It’s easy to get to CarriageWorks by train, bus or bike. We recommend that you take advantage of the easily accessible public transport and give our local residents (and the planet!) a break rather than clog up the neighbouring streets with cars.
